My Health Diary
Sat. Jan. 6, 2007 Notes from Health Seminar with Dr. Joan Massey of Titusville, Florida
- For breakfast mix water, good juices (organic if possible) along with your Juice Plus Complete in a blender with – up to a ¼ cup of raw flaxseeds (be sure to crush them separately first in a blender before adding to the mixture), some Barlean’s oil, little bit of some lemon or orange zest (peel), some turmeric, or
- Flaxseed is so much less expensive than Metamucil and just as good or better for your fiber! ¼ cup of flaxseeds give you 22 mg of fiber and we’re supposed to have about 32 mg a day!
- Instead of Quaker instant oatmeal take the 1-2 minutes longer and use the good old fashioned rolled Quaker oats. They do not have all the refinements and do not have the sugar and other additives that the instant kind has to make it cook quicker.
- Some explanation about phytochemicals and how our body processes these from whole foods.
- Spices to use:
- Turmeric / Curry (anti-inflammatory, may prevent Alzheimers and reduce pain of arthritis!)
- Ginger (good cure against nausea, motion sickness, etc)
- Garlic (reduces stickiness of blood platelets, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lower homocysteine levels in the blood, boosting immune function…)
- Only use 1-2 oz of the expensive organic juices in some water instead of drinking the individual servings all by themselves. This way you can slow down the glycemic process of the juice and get more water into you at the same time and save money!
- Drink the juice of half of an organic lemon in one glass of warm purified water every morning (along with a little bit of cayenne pepper) to flush the liver and we all need a cleaner liver!
- Drink water where you’ve steeped some fresh ginger root…
- When you feel a cold bug coming on eat plenty of fresh garlic…
- Every morning in the shower while wet and soapy (especially for women) start at fingertips and roll other hand down the opposite arm and toward your chest to help prevent breast cancer! This moves the lipids so that the chest/breast do not hold onto the congestion…
- Bit of discussion about what is acupuncture
- Bit of discussion about the rife machine and Royal Rife the inventor who had 100% success cancer cure in 1934 until Penicillian was discovered.
- I looked up garlic here because I couldn’t remember: http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/DVH/HerbsWho/0,3923,4041|Garlic,00.html
Ok so I go to my little Titusville health food store, Sunshine Health Foods, and in my bag they always put a couple of articles on health. One of the articles happened to be about foot detoxing! This was great because recently I've had some people ask my opinion about the Kinoki foot pads and the foot detox machines. The following was from the pamphlet however, again, as all of my information, it is for your consideration - I am still on the fence about the foot detox products. I did sleep better the nights that I wore the Kinoki foot pad, one only on one foot each night for seven nights, and I thought my morning breath had been reduced but those could have been just a coincidence.
From the pamphlet:
You can be carrying toxins in your system
There is an Asian expression that says, “Aging Comes From The Foot”
Toxins move downwards in the body
Accumulated fluids and toxins can cause painful swelling around the ankles
Toxic accumulation leads to a variety of degenerative diseases
Toxins affect our quality of life
Toxins cause pain and energy loss
Clear the toxins and facilitate better blood circulation and enhance the immune system
They are not promoting – on this flyer – any specific foot detox system however, I am sure if I were to ask them they are probably offering one of the foot soak type of detox sessions. I'll ask next time I go in and try to remember to update the answer here.
What do you think about Nutraceuticals?
This book covers many of the important concepts. The term covers almost any food, herb, etc for healing of the body.
Another edition focuses on functional foods for healing.
Many years ago I read Maureen Salaman's book Foods that Heal and was impressed by the wealth of information contained in it. I believe Maureen did find a way to cure her cancer and as I recall she detailed this in the book. If you read it let me know what you think by emailing me at: s.murrey@hotmail.comLet me take this opportunity as well, to point you to all of my amazon.com book reviews... You'll see many have to do with the subject.
On a personal note, relatives have told me that my grandmother (American Indian descent) was quite into foods and herbs/plants for medicinal purposes. I believe that's true because the older I get the more 'into it' I become! haha! Well, all I can do is what many of us can do, that is take full responsibility for my health and well-being. My doctors play a role sure, so does my massage therapists and acupuncture physician but more and more I understand that it is I would needs to do the best I can do for my body.
